Arequipa and the Colca Canyon

Founded in 1540 and declared World Heritage site in the year 2000, Arequipa is the second most important city of Peru. Located at 2335 meters above sea level, this beautiful South American jewel, also known as the “White City,” has preserved its spectacular architecture. It’s also full of unique attractions. Surrounded by peaks over 5,000 meters high and guarded by the Misti, a 5,874 meters high volcano, it's geography starts with the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world and the best place to spot condors in their natural environment. Among other attractions, it has a valley of elfin volcanoes, glaciers, inter-Andean valleys, native communities, and Cotahuasi Canyon, the second-deepest canyon in the world. In Arequipa you will find some of the best rivers for rafting; one of the best cuisines in the country and much more. Arequipa also has the National Reserves of Aguada Blanca and Salinas in the highlands, and the National Reserve of Mejía, next to relaxing beaches. In these reserves you can see over 150 species of birds and mammals.
