| Some of the attractions around the lodge in San Pedro include one "Lek" or dancing ground of the Andean Cock of the Rocks (Rupicola peruviana), endemic to the Cloud Forest, which are nearly crow-sized, bright red birds that belong in the Cotinga family. Troops of acrobatic Woolly Monkeys (Lagothrix lagothricha) are also frequently sighted. An ornithological census by John Arvin, a renowned Tropical Ornithologist, shows a list that exceeds 700 species of birds in the way from the grasslands to the lowlands of the Upper Madre de Dios River port of Atalaya (Eastern slopes of the Andes). |

Day 1 / Cusco - San Pedro (Cloud Forest)
We depart early in the morning to our Manu Adventure. We pass through inter Andean valleys and Andean communities. We will visit the interesting Pre-Inca burial towers of Ninamarka known as "Chulpas", then we continue to the colonial town of Paucartambo, from there we go up to Acjanaco pass at 3500 m.a.s.l. Where a ranger station marks the southernmost point of the Park; from this point we descend into the Amazon Basin through the Cloud Forest rich in endemic species like the Cock of the Rocks (Rupicola peruviana), the Spectacle Bear (Tremarctos ornatus), orchids, ferns, bromeliads, etc. to arrive to our lodge in the Cloud Forest where we overnight. During our journey to the Cloud Forest, we will make 2 walks where we can spot different bird species, as well as the Wooly Monkey (Lagothrix lagotricha) and the Brown Capuchin Monkey (Cebus paella). Day 2 / San Pedro (Cloud Forest) - Amazonia Lodge (Rain Forest)
Today we wake up very early to observe the Cock of the Rocks (Rupicola peruviana), Peru’s National Bird from a platform. The male birds are vibrant reddish orange, and as many as several dozen come together for an exhibition of a mating ritual dance in a place called “Lek”. The males display their crest, showing off and posturing for the females. The females, fewer in number, watch to select the most suitable male. After this activity we come back to the lodge to have breakfast. After breakfast we take our transport that will take us to the port of Atalaya, this is the first fluvial port of the Alto Madre de Dios river, here we take our outboard engine boat and head downstream to the Amazonia Lodge where we overnight; this is a great opportunity to spot birds that inhabit the river shores like Herons, Cormorants, Kingfishers, etc. On the way we stop at the Machuwasi Lake, where we will see other species that live on the lake like the Hoatzin or Shansho (Opistocomus hoatzin), Snake bird (Anhinga anhinga), Black–capped (Donacobius atricapillus), Gallinules, Flycatchers, Woodpeckers and more. |

We will spent the rest of the day using the facilities of the Amazonia Lodge which is situated at the pre-mountain zone and there it is possible to do birding in many different habitats like the Bamboo Forest, Flood Plain area, Hill Forest, Swamps, etc.; or just walking short distances. (B,L,D)
Day 3 / Amazonia Lodge (Rain Forest)
Early morning visit to the Mascoitania Macaw Clay Lick, 20 minutes ride by boat from the Lodge. After Breakfast at the Amazonia Lodge walk through the extensive trail system where is possible to observe monkeys, a large variety of birds and the Tropical Forest. At the Amazonia Lodge, part of the forest is mature Secondary Sucessional Forest. The characteristic vegetation for this type of forest is represented mainly by the families Moreceae, Cecropiaceae, Piperaceae, Mimosaceae, Melastomataceae, Heliconiaceae, etc. The fauna is mainly composed of primates like Squirrel monkey (Saimiri scireus), Brown Capuchin monkey (Cebus paella), White-fronted Capuchin monkey (Cebus albiforns), and other mammals grouped under different families like the White-lipped Peccary (Tayassu pecari), Collared Peccary (Tayassu tajacu), Capybara (Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris), Brazilian Tapir (Tapirus terrestris), etc. As far as birds go, the most representative in this type of habitat are: Russet-backed Oropendola (Psarocolius angustifrons), Masked Crimson Tanager (Ramphocelus carbo), Blue Gray Tanager (Thraupis episcopus), Undulated Tinamu (Crypturellus undulates), Chesnut-fronted Macaw (Ara Severa), Gray-fronted Dove (Leptotila rufaxila), etc. and many amphibians and reptiles like the White Caiman (Caiman crocodilus). (B,L,D)
